An existing house was demolished to make way for a new building on an elevated plot set against the Tokai forest with views of the Hottentots Holland Mountain range and across False Bay. The design is modern, but timeless with many elements influenced by Asian design. Including the relaxed Feng Shui architecture of Bali and Thailand.
The use of ponds and pools throughout the house enhance the calming and tranquil design. A key element was the use of natural finishes and the incorporation of planters to blur the line between indoors and outdoors. Natural wood, stone and marble, combined with glass and steel add to the uniqueness of the design.
Doors slide away opening the home up to the abundant natural foliage surrounding the house. The vegetation provides privacy and a sense of being suspended in the trees.
The house is fully automated and can be run remotely using an iPad to control access, security, lighting, music, and various other electrical devices. The home extends over 2000 meters, incorporating four en-suite bedrooms, two TV lounges, a cellar and games room, an outdoor entertainment area with champagne bar and pool, a separate gym with a steam room, a study/ library, and an open plan entertainer’s kitchen, dining room and lounge.
Kings Cross was also commissioned to design all the interiors and supply the furnishings throughout. The property has featured in numerous fashion shoots, TV commercials and movie shoots, and attracts rave reviews from the international guests that regularly visit.
